The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon unites runners from around the world behind The Orchid Legacy's mission to empower nurses through scholarships and grants, professional growth and education, essential work supplies, and access to affordable mental health resources.

Participants who commit to a $2,700 fundraising minimum will receive a guaranteed race entry for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. Space is limited, sign up early and secure your place in support of The Orchid Legacy's mission.
*As an International Charity Partner, we are only permitted to recruit and accept applications from runners who are not residents of Africa. In accordance with Cape Town Marathon regulations, athletes residing in Africa must apply through the official South African charity listings on the Cape Town Marathon website. Participants must be 18 years of age or older on the date of the event to be eligible for entry into the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.
Fundraising Commitment
Each participant commits to raising a minimum of $2,700 to support The Orchid Legacy's mission of empowering nurses through scholarships and grants, professional growth and education, essential work supplies, and access to affordable mental health resources.
Many runners choose to set a personal fundraising goal beyond the minimum, often $3,000 or more, to maximize their impact and give themselves a fundraising cushion.

Fundraising Deadline
Participants are required to reach their $2,700 fundraising commitment by March 30th, 2027.
Fundraising totals may include online donations, employer matching gifts, donor-advised fund grants, and approved offline donations received by The Orchid Legacy prior to the fundraising deadline.

Running is more than just a physical challenge for me. It is a time to clear my mind and reflect with gratitude. Through my work as a nurse caring for patients facing life changing diagnoses, long hospital stays, and uncertainty, I am reminded every day of the fragility of life. Some of my most meaningful moments have been as simple as taking a patient outside to feel the warmth of the sun and breathe fresh air, knowing they may still be waiting for the life saving heart they need. Every step I take reminds me to appreciate the moments we often take for granted.
Runner:
Gabrielle Winant
Running has taught me that fitness is as much mental as it is physical. I love testing my limits and feeling grateful for what my body can do. I took up running to find a new challenge and a deeper purpose.
This marathon, I’m fundraising for The Orchid Legacy, which provides meaningful support and community for nurses. The compassion nurses showed my family during my mother’s cancer treatment left a lasting mark on me, and I’m honored to run for them.

When a friend asked if I'd join The Orchid Legacy Run Club after seeing that I'd started walking, it felt like the perfect fit. The nonprofit was created in honor of his mom, a nurse, and as someone who has spent my career in healthcare and now works alongside nurses every day, the mission really spoke to me. I'm also on my own health journey, and I thought this would be a great way to stay accountable while supporting a meaningful cause. I love encouraging others and helping people reach the finish line, so being able to put my steps toward something bigger than myself makes this even more rewarding.
